Solid Waste Franchise Agreement

The City of Huntington Park has developed a widely transparent and open public bidding process for solid waste collection services. Following an intensive eight-month bidding process, the City contracted with United Pacific Waste (UPW) to provide solid waste collection services. Information related to the bidding process can be found below.

November 4, 2013: City Council approves business points (agenda, minutes, report)
January 13, 2014: Public workshop with prospective haulers (agenda, minutes, presentation)
March 17: City Council authorizes RFP (agenda, report, presentation)
March 20: RFP published
April 8: Pre-proposal conference (10 a.m. in City Council Chambers)
April 10: Last day to submit written questions
May 22: Proposals due by 2 p.m. (proposals received)
July 19: Special City Council meeting to review proposals (agenda, presentation)
July 23: Special City Council meeting for company presentations
July 28: Special City Council meeting to interview finalists (presentation)
August 4: City Council to award Franchise Agreement
August 18: Contract executed
December 31: Current solid waste collection service contracts expire
January 1, 2015: Start new solid waste collection service
